Words That Endure

On Reflection at 80

"At 80, the real value of what a man has lived for becomes clear. There are men who look back filled with regret. For Dr Ogunbiyi, the story is different: 'I am grateful that I have not hit the rocks and have not made a shipwreck of my life and faith. I am not perfect. No one is. But I thank God when I look at my children and grandchildren... I rejoice.'"

On Fatherhood as a Calling

"Dr Ogunbiyi is widely known as 'Baba' — not on account of his age, but because people were drawn to his fatherly heart, love, humility and care. He believes that just as he has a clear job description as an obstetrician and gynaecologist, he also has one as a father: a leader, a guiding light, a mentor to all God brings his way. To him, fatherhood is a sacred call and a serious divine duty — a legacy he wants to leave behind, the true definition of manhood. His daughter Bunmi puts it simply: 'Baba is a towering strength, and the house is built on the lessons he taught and lived out.'"

Dr. Bamigboye Ezekiel Ogunbiyi

Obstetrician & Gynaecological Surgeon · Memoirist

Dr. Bamigboye Ezekiel Ogunbiyi is one of Nigeria's foremost and distinguished Obstetricians and Gynaecological Surgeons. A pioneer graduate of the Medical College of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he has more than 50 years experience in maternal health care.

After graduating from the Medical College, he completed the first part of his postgraduate training at the ABU Teaching Hospital and the second at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, graduating as a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This culminated in his membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. After returning from the UK in 1983, he served as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, and retired from public service as a Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with the Borno State Hospital Management Board. He was also a Senior Honorary Lecturer at the University of Maiduguri. Over time, he has taken giant strides in the medical profession and made immense contributions to maternal health care in Nigeria. In addition, his twin role as a pacesetter and revolutionary medical innovator has been widely acknowledged.

Dr. Ogunbiyi's wife, Hon. Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi JSC (Rtd), describes her husband of over 50 years as a man with a golden heart, an epithet that encapsulates the virtues and family values of this outstanding medical doctor.

Ripples of Grace is an absorbing, detailed portrayal of his life and a systemic account of how his dreams were realised. It is an intriguing and inspirational story of dogged faith and hope amid challenges, a tale of all-around success, propelled at every stage by God's divine grace. First published in 2021, this repackaged edition is more robust as it updates his memoirs for the reading public.
